Yale Motel meth suspect sentenced in Oklahoma
A Yale man arrested for possessing a meth lab in the trunk of a car and then charged with running a methamphetamine manufacturing operation at The Yale Motel has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Christopher Leon Ratliff, 27, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a school, conspiracy to possess substances with intent to manufacture meth, possession of substances with intent to manufacture meth, animal cruelty and possession of drug paraphernalia Dec. 19.
He received a sentence of eight years in each of the following counts: conspiracy, possession of substances with intent to manufacture and possession near a school; he received a five-year sentence for cruelty to animals; and he was sentenced to one year in the Payne County, Oklahoma Jail on each of the paraphernalia charges.
Ratliff was transferred to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Assessment and Reception Center at Lexington on Dec. 31.
All sentences will run concurrently.
Drug Task Force agents raided the Yale Motel after Ratliff was arrested at Wal-Mart on Sept. 13. Agents found meth labs or remnants of labs in five of the 12 rooms of the motel, which Ratliff lived in and managed at the time.
According to the affidavit filed in the case, DTF agents were advised by the city of Yale the water and electricity had been cut off to the motel for non-payment.
When agents entered the premises Sept. 14, agents found several items used in the manufacture of meth, strong chemical odors and two dogs inside the motel.
Agents stated the floors were wet and covered with feces. They stated one of the dogs appeared to have mange and asked Animal Control to take them into custody.
Agents allegedly found several gallon containers of solvents, sulfuric acid, muratic acid, red phosphorus, scales, powder residue, a homemade HCL generator, smoking pipes and ephedrine.
Ratliff was arrested and charged along with Bryan Keith Mitchell, 37.
At the time of his arrest, Ratliff was free on a suspended sentence from a 2001 drug conviction and Mitchell was free on bond from a December 2002 meth charge.
Mitchell's $10,000 bond was revoked after he failed to appear for a court hearing Dec. 31 and a warrant was issued.
He is in the Payne County, Oklahoma Jail and will appear for court Feb. 9.
