Training session to cover dangers of meth in Oklahoma

TISHOMINGO, Oklahoma -- Training on methamphetamine dangers with a message for citizens and academic credit for law enforcement officers will be available Thursday.
Tishomingo Daughters, with cooperation from Murray State College, Oklahoma will offer the public service program during a 3ð-hour session at the campus center in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Jerry Harris, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics agent-in-charge, will be the presenter.

Harris has been with the bureau since 1979. He will share information about meth lab dangers and tell how children are victimized by toxic waste sites.

Organizers said the free program is open to public servants and concerned citizens wanting to learn more about lab operation dangers and hazards posed for endangered children.

"It will be three and a half hours of training you will never forget," said Connie Pedersen, a study club member. Information centers on how deadly meth labs are from start to finish and how people are affected, directly and indirectly. Those in public service and concerned citizens will gain a new perspective on dangers created by illicit operations.

Pedersen said the course is CLEET accredited for law enforcement and can count toward mandatory training hours. A study club program last year earned the Tishomingo, Oklahoma chapter a General Federation of Women's Club Oklahoma state award for crime prevention.
